Teachers, please take the time to watch this talk by David Crystal, especially if you’re passionate about language arts and literacy.  It’s excellent and wrestles with some of the things I’ve heard (and wondered about) when it comes to text messaging.  What are your experiences in the classroom?  What do you think?
